Restaurants in Lisbon and surroundings

Everywhere in Portugal you can find delicious food. And the wines that go along with it. The Portuguese are proud of their gastronomy and anybody visiting the country should regard tasting our food as a cultural activity (a very rewarding one, to be sure). In Lisbon and surroundings, however, one can find the best but the worst as well. The following is a very selected and highly personal choice of restaurants for those visiting Lisbon, including a few insightful choices from the other side of the river and from Cascais. I have tried to arrange them geographically, starting from the old city. Hopefully they will not be too expensive, but as a guide let us say that most likely a full meal will cost slightly less (*) or slightly more (**) than 14 Euros per person. Please refer to city and transportation maps that you should obtain at librairies or (better) the tourist office in Palácio Foz, Restauradores Place. At the bottom of the page there is a fine map of Lisbon (282K) that you might want to print.
