This is the map of Portugal

Lisboa is the capital city. The official touristic names for the outlined regions (Madeira and Azores not displayed) are:
  • Costa Verde ("Green Coast") -- the North Coastline
  • Costa de Prata ("Silver Coast") -- the Centre Coastline
  • Costa de Lisboa ("Lisbon Coast") -- Lisbon and surroundings
  • Algarve (also known as "The Algarve")
  • Montanhas ("Mountains") -- the Interior North and Centre
  • Planícies ("Planes") -- The Interior South
  • Click on the map and a general introduction will be available > >
A personal choice of restaurants in Lisbon and surroundings is also avaliable. Otherwise, check the following: Portugal-info (Portugal-based, quite thorough but written by English-speaking residents), travel blogger Nancy Brown, MadeiraWeb (a great site for tourists to Madeira), TownNet, BudgetTravel, and VisitEurope (all of the latter being part of global-covering sites); camping travellers might want to check specialized pages such as roteiro campista (which has versions in English and in French), and Madeira Camping (not forgetting the corresponding section from the Visit Madeira site), or a general list of camps with telephones, the relevant sapo search results (mostly in Portuguese) plus the companion Artof(budget)travel site.

A good Portuguese reference for all cities and local points of interest is Guia das cidades, with maps, photos, very comprehensive. The available information in English may not be as extensive.

I also have a page telling the tale of my trip to Turkey in September 1999
F , another of a package tour to Syria and Jordan in September 2001 F , and still another (in Portuguese) of a package trip to China in Sepember 1999.

Please feel free to ask me questions. I shall do my best to help you being informed.
